The Funfair

When one chooses to go to a run-down funfair staffed by surly Eastern European teenagers of dubious immigration status, one really shouldn't expect the same high standards as one would find at say, Disney World. But really, when a 5-year old child is 6 feet in the air on a relatively fast moving ride, shouldn't he be strapped in? Fortunately, when this oversight was pointed out to the attendant, he took one last long drag from his cigarette, sullenly fastened Elliot's safety belt, and gave him another go for free. Which is a €40 value! Success!

...
I gave up on this post after I'd barely started. The move and the shop are taking their toll, so I'll just post photos from the day I spent approximately €700,000 on 6 rides.

My Son the Sociopath

7:30 Saturday morning we came upon an horrific motorway accident at the same time as the ambulances and fire brigade. As any responsible parent would do, I immediately told Elliot not to look.

Elliot: Why?
Me: Because I don't want you to see something that may upset you.
Elliot: Are their brains spilling out and their faces half ripped off?
Me: Errr...
Elliot: Coz that would be deadly!
Me: You know, Elliot, you really frighten me sometimes.
Elliot: I'm not afraid of anything.
Me: Evidently.
